Frequently Asked Questions

Question:  The EPS is not working.

Answer: Connect the battery to the outputs by following the test instructions from the user manual.

" For the board to fully function pins H2.41, H2.42, H2.43 and H2.44 (battery common) should be shorted to pins H2.35 and H2.36 (separation switch connection) and H2.33 and H2.34 (pull pin connection)"

Question: The Power board (EPS) I2C is not responding

Answer: The I2C line is active high and must be set before each I2C operation.  I2C_ON should be held low at start up (0V) then sent high (released to go high) before the first I2C message.

It can be held high permanently after this.  The pull-up resistor on this line will automatically do this.

Question:  We would like charge the batteries from a ground support equipment box that supplies 5V at up to 10A. Would it damage the power board if we connected this to the USB charging pin?

Answer: There will be no problem supplying the 5V USB from the ground support box.  The USB input is current limited by the EPS .

Question:  What tests are carried out on batteries at Clyde Space?

Answer: The full range of tests carried out on each new batch of cells is described in the Battery Test Procedures Section
