The Sumbandila, a low-orbit satellite will collect data to be used to monitor and manage disasters such as floods, oil spills and fires within Southern Africa. The satellite will be able to measure sea and land temperatures, clouds and rainfall, winds, sea level, ice cover, vegetation cover, and gases.
The SumbandilaSat's Solar Panels were manufactured by Clyde Space; more information on Clyde Space involvement in the project can be found here.
