CubeSat Attitude Determination and Control System

  • FPGA based design with Spacecraft Attitude Control algorithms embedded as VHDL (using Matlab design suite).
  • Pre-programmed control modes selectable by I2C commands including: Magnetic Align; Sun Tracking; Nadir Pointing (custom modes available on request).
  • Interfaces for multiple sensors and actuators providing scalability and performance options.
  • Integrated magnetorquer drivers (compatible with Clyde Space solar panel magnetoquers or other).
  • Integrated, temperature compensated sensor module which includes magnetometers and rate sensors.
  • GPS interface for optional GPS daughter board.
  • Coarse and Fine Sun-sensor interfaces.
  • 3-axis reaction wheel control interface.
  • Other sensor interfaces easily configurable over dedicated serial data buses.
  • Radiation tolerance tested to 15krads. SEE tolerant by design.

The Clyde Space plug and play ADCS has been developed with ease of integration and operation as key design droivers. To achieve this, predefined attitude control modes are embedded within the system. These mission modes require little or no user input and include the following: Detumbling, Pitch Spin, Magnetic Align, 3-Axis Control, Inertia Wheel Desaturation, Nadir Pointing and Sun Tracking.
